Changes to our appointment system due to COVID-19…

 

The current COVID-19 pandemic has meant huge changes in how we are all working and we have had to adapt and change how we provide services as we go along.

 

At the current time most GP consultations will continue to be done remotely via telephone consultation or video link. We will continue to provide face to face appointments for examinations and procedures where this is the best and safest way to help you.

 

The need for appointments is increasing as people are resuming much of their normal lives and to help us all with that we now have the ability to use an email consulting tool called eConsults. This is a tried and tested system which you can use to get self-help information, pharmacy advice or request help from your GP. You are able to describe your concerns and symptoms and let us know what kind of help you need.  It is also a good way to deal with many administrative issues, including fit notes, dealing with tests results, letters, referrals, paperwork etc.

 

We are undertaking training with all our staff to ensure that when you contact us about a problem we can find the best way to help you. You may want to book a telephone appointment with a doctor of choosing at a convenient time. We are going to allocate more time to these prebooked appointments and these are particularly suitable for routine care and ongoing or complicated problems.  We will always try and help you access the same doctor where possible with an ongoing problem.

 

However, if you have a more urgent problem or a simple query that requires a quick response, we will be asking you to complete an eConsult where possible. We will respond to all of these more urgent requests by the end of the next working day but usually much sooner. The system is very safe, and if your problem is too urgent or not suitable you will quickly be redirected to either an appropriate emergency service or to telephone the surgery and discuss it further.

 

When your eConsult is viewed by a GP they can send you a text with some advice, organise a prescription for you, and arrange a referral or a longer routine telephone consultation. They may need to phone you to clarify some information or deal with your query in person.


We also still have our Minor Illness Nurse, Amy Lopez who can help with many common illnesses, our expert practice nursing team and a new Clinical Pharmacist, Sally Arnison, who can help with medication issues. We also have access to some GPs, nurse, pharmacists and paramedics from the Urgent Care Centre while it is closed, and they can provide telephone appointments and face to face consultations and this also includes Extended Hours.
